Once more unadulterated optimism was the order of the day to set out in pouring rain and mist almost down to sea level. I conveyed far more optimism than I felt to Ben, but remarkably it was rewarded with partially clearing skies and even a few shafts of sunlight on the return journey. The wind was not too fierce for the traverse of the horns and the beauty of the gorge made for a most enjoyable walk.
