Our weekend at the Lagangarbh Hut started in disappointingly wet fashion. We set off from the Ballachulish forest car park in the pouring rain that soon turned to sleet. Needless to say, there were no other takers for this popular horseshoe. On leaving the forest the snow began in earnest and we were soon wading knee deep with a blizzard raging. Fortunately I had brought the piece de resistance for the occasion – a pair ofswimming goggles for Ben – which were brought in to action on the summit ridge across which the spindrift was being hurled at over 40 miles an hour. Ben did not enjoy the final 10 minutes when I had to hold on to him quite tightly to stop him from being blown away, but once off the most windy spot, the spindrift was less painful and I managed to persuade Ben to take a look at the next Munro which I reasoned would be less windy. My optimism was rewarded with a fine crest in relatively benign conditions, which we both enjoyed. In buoyant spirits we descended in lunging steps down the increasingly slobbery snow to the forest below where a late lunch was had and the precipitation ceased.
